Holiday 2017 - Luxurious Classics And Colorful Novelties On Every List!

SALVATORE FERRAGAMO FLAGSHIP - NYC - THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD - GIFT WRAPPED FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON - Round of applause for the incredible visual team at Ferragamo - they truly make magic happen!! Ho Ho HOW can it be December?  While 2017 has felt like one LONG roller coaster in so many ways, now that it's December - I'm asking - Where did the year go?  Well, if clients are feeling the same way, we have SO many options for her to wear while she ponders the flying calendar over holiday cocktails while spreading Christmas cheer! As usual, the Ferragamo Visual team went above and beyond creating a Holiday Spectacular.  This year, they have gift wrapped the largest Ferragamo Btq. in the world - and Electrified it!! The scale of this bow is so large I had to include two shots to show the "around the corner" effect.  These shots were taken after 10pm and shoppers were still looking in the windows and enjoying the incredible 5th Avenue display.

CREATIVE NEWS - Before we dive into what's happening in the stores - there was another big announcement last month regarding Paul Andrew.  This talented designer become the Creative Director for Womenswear.  An expansion of Paul's role from Shoe Director, he now adds RTW and Accessories to his team.  Congratulations to Paul!  I know we are all excited to see his first runway collection!  The move means Fulvio Rigoni has left the company, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.   Additionally, it has been announced the runway show in February will include BOTH Women's and Men's runway collections!   The announcement means Ferragamo joins Gucci, Etro, Jil Sander, and other Milan Collections combining the two shows for the upcoming market.  Stay tuned.

Take-away trends for for the year : Expect the Unexpected.  From Designers, from shoppers, and from Governments!  SMALL VARA BOW RAINBOW BAG IN RED - $1,390.00 AND PERFECT FOR SANTA SHOPPING!It's often said that Fashion is the first of the creative arts to express a mood or the feel of a population in the global political scene.   It could be that the "anything goes" approach to fashion this year is amplifying the mood of voters and shoppers.   Luxury classics have never been more popular - at the same time there is a fever for luxurious novelties.. HUH?  With the overwhelming success of Gucci over the last two years..  shoppers are facing an onslaught of "MORE is MORE" as so many collections try to play catch up by throwing everything but the kitchen sink on a garment, handbag, or shoe.   #DontBelieveTheHype   While Gucci is booming, when I'm checking in with sales associates in stores I visit, they tell me it's still the classics that sell all day long. GIVENCHY SILK CHIFFON BLOUSE - $2,695.00 - As seen in ELLE MAGAZINE The novelty gets shoppers in the door - but not every woman feels comfortable with a 3D art collage on her chest.  (If there is an ultra-luxe "ugly sweater" party happening, I have a few suggestions for shoppers).

So, as the holiday rush gets into full swing, let's remember: Salvatore Ferragamo helps women look their best and feel confident with what she is wearing -head to toe.  She wears Ferragamo, it does not wear her.  Nothing is sexier, more successful, and more beautiful than confidence - shining in Italian craftsmanship. LOUIS VUITTON CHAIN/ LEATHER STRAP FLORAL CALFSKIN BAG - $4,400.00 & BALENCIAGA FLORAL BOOTIE - $995.00

FANTASTIC FLORALS - Floral prints have never been more saturated or in full bloom. FERRAGAMO SMALL VARA BOW RAINBOW BAG IN FLORAL PRINTED PYTHON - $2,200.00 so chic back to any solid color.. or if she dares- combined with another print? FLOWER HEEL BALLET FLAT - $650.00

VALENTINO SILK CHIFFON SHEER DRESS - $8,600.00 - RED SILK PANTY $1,020.00 SALVATORE FERRAGAMO RED SUEDE PUMPS WITH BLACK TRIM - NAUGHTY AND NICE AT THE SAME TIME - SO SANTA CAN GIVE THESE TO ALL THE LADIES. - As seen in ELLE MAGAZINE

CARDINAL RED - ITALIAN ICON and HOLIDAY Home RUN!

It's a Christmas cliche - but nothing beats it.  A shot of RED anything this time of year, just makes you happy.  Mixed with black for true #SantaStyle - or way more modern with pale shades of pink.. a RED pump, handbag, or of course dress - will lead the way like Rudolph on a foggy Christmas Eve!  The Ferragamo Red Suede Pump had a page to herself in the sexy shoot in ELLE Magazine in November.  The shoot was dreamy.  This red pump with a full volume pink pant would be SO chic.  This photo shoot showcased really beautiful pieces. Please take note of the price points of the Valentino Dress and Blouse.  Gorgeous craftsmanship at a premium.   Ferragamo black puff jacket worn over KENZO jacket, with MARC JACOBS Pants, DIOR Hat, shoes are CROCS by Christopher Kane - as seen in the WSJ Magazine

It's a WRAP - or a PUFF.. or a COCOON?  - In opposition to the all the lovely sheer pieces in stores, designers have also offered more down, more quilted, and more puff jackets than we have seen in years.RICK OWENS "ENSEMBLE" - ???Some go to the extreme, and Ferragamo hit it right down the middle -on trend - but wearable.  Of course!   I'm sharing one extreme vision of "Puffers" by LA designer (based in Paris) Rick Owens.

Silver / Gold / Black - has been,SHE CAN'T GO WRONG IN ANY BLACK / GOLD / SILVER SHOE & BAG COMBINATION. HERE THE F WEDGE WITH GACIO FLAP - BOTH WITH GOLD HARDWARE and will be a winning choice for holiday SLEEVELESS ROUNDNECK DRESS WITH SILVER JACQUARD FLOWER DETAIL (KNIT SKIRT) - THE PERFECT BASE TO ADD LAYERS THIS WINTERfestivities around the world any and every year. RICK OWENS CREATION...This might be a political statement as I think this look was originally featured in that animated short series-"SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK" - the "How a Bill Becomes a Law" episode. - #VETO.   Worn in combination, these colors are dynamic and modern in every formula.  GANCINI STRAPPY SANDALS WITH FLOWER HEEL -$975.00- ANY HEIGHT WILL DO! A very simple ensemble of all black just pops with Gancini Strappy Sandals and a chain strap gancio flap handbag!  MEDIUM GANCIO FLAP BAG WITH MIXED MATERIAL - STUNNING WITH GOLD CHAIN These are AMAZING day-to-evening assets to take a client to any evening occasion. *Any trip to Europe - MUST HAVE*

STTTTREEEETCH Through The Season-FERRAGAMO STRETCH BOOTS AND SNEAKERS The evolution of stretch fabrics has been one of the most exciting trends to watch, as the high tech items from sports accessories have truly changed luxury goods.  Ferragamo offers two shoes to tickle that fancy - the high tech heel - or the ultra-luxe sneaker.   Whichever style is HER style- one of these will make her holiday bright!

LEGEND TO LEGEND- Azzedine Alaia & Salvatore Ferragamo -Madonna posted this outake from a shot by STEVEN MEISEL from the 90's. Alaia created the pieces for the poster. Madonna gave her condolences to her dear friend. Azzedine Alaia is one of the most accomplished and celebrated Couture Fashion Designers of the 20th century.FRENCH COUTIER AZZEDINE ALAIA (A-LIE-A)  His body hugging silhouettes made him a magnet for models, actresses, pop stars, and luxury shoppers around the world. AZZEDINE ALAIA COUTURE RUNWAY - JULY 2017- FEATURING THE SALVATORE FERRAGAMO (CREATIONS) "INDIANA" THIGH HIGH LEOPARD BOOTS. Sadly, he died on November 18th in Paris, where he lived.  He was an individualist that refused to conform to "norms".  He ridiculed the fashion industry for the exhausting collection cycle and in fact, refused to follow it.  He was a true Couturier, and would schedule shows independent of any industry schedule.   Randomly at times, or skipping a season - as he saw fit.  FERRAGAMO CREATIONS "INDIANA" BOOT - RECREATED FOR AZZEDINE ALAIA RUNWAY Buyers would visit the atelier and if no show was happening, they would order best sellers from the archives for the next season.   His following was loyal, and loving.  Stories of Alaia cooking dinner for buyers that visited the studio are legendary.  On news of his death style icons from Madonna to Lady Gaga - to EVERY Super Model of the 80's and 90's posted heartfelt messages on love to the designer and friend.

His independence did come with some cost, as his relevance in pop culture was not what other designers with less talent, but more promotion enjoyed.  Alaia refused to advertise.  Can you imagine?  Needless to say his work was rarely seen in fashion magazines.   His famous feud and choice words about Anna Wintour might have also had something to do with the lack of VOGUE editorials in the last decade.  He also never held his tongue regarding Karl Lagerfeld.  (worth the google search).  If you aren't familiar with his work, please search his work - it's a reference to always have in the back of your mind.   RIP Azzedine

In his show in July, which would be his last, Alaia paid homage to Salvatore Ferragamo in a special collaboration - showing an original Salvatore design from the 20's - the "Indiana" thigh-high leopard print boot from Creations.  They made a big splash almost 100 years ago, and last July in Paris - the boots had the same reaction!  What an honor for Alaia to pay homage to Salvatore, and an honor to have Ferragamo on the runway on the last show of Alaia.   Icon to Icon.   That is a legacy of luxury you cannot replicate.. This only happens here!

Keep hydrated (and caffeinated) during the next few hectic weeks!

Wishing you all the Happiest and Healthiest Holiday season.  Merry Christmas!!

Summer Must Haves - SPF & Fall Previews

HARPER'S BAZAAR CHOOSES THE LOOKS THAT STOLE THE RUNWAY FOR FALL 2015OFF THE SHELVES (Almost)

As Summer kicks into full swing, one thing is more dependable than sunny beach days - Fall Previews!  As we know, if you can wear a bikini this weekend - that means the hottest looks for Fall have shipped, are shipping, or are being sewn right now!  Some lament that the system is antiquated and all stores should be buy now / wear now.  COLOR-BLOCK TO THE MAX - EXIT 5 - SALVATORE FERRAGAMO FALL 2015However, there is something charming and exclusive about planning ahead and having access to next seasons hottest looks - today.   Especially when the fashion is made in Italy, extremely limited in production, and made from the finest artisanal talent in the world.   Shipping just ahead of seasonal schedule is also the only way to give clients time to appreciate these items, and "fall in love" with them.   This seasonal buffer adds to the romance of designer fashion.  ELLE MAGAZINE RECAPS THE HOTTEST LOOKS FROM FALL 2015

Fashion Editors are already celebrating Massimiliano's vision of Fall.  Color Blocking, Graphic lines, long sleeves, pleats, and ponchos - all coming for Fall.  Harper's Bazaar, Elle, and Vogue - all approve.   One by one - the editorials are piling up fast.

For celebrities, of course there is no "season".   Those famous for their talent and their look become walking runways for key fashion designers soon after the looks debut on the actual runway.   What is now known as "Street Style" has extended the red carpet photo op to just about every day.

ON THE STREET

SALVATORE FERRAGAMO EXOTIC PATCHWORK FLAP BAG - GETTING ATTENTION

LADY GAGA is no stranger to Runway, Haute Couture, and Avant Garde fashion.  Gaga is also no stranger to Salvatore Ferragamo.   This music icon is a fashion rebel to say the least.   LADY GAGA TAKES POST YOGA FASHION TO A NEW LEVEL IN FERRAGAMO FALL RUNWAY- NO LULULEMON HERE!Gaga uses fashion to set the stage as she teeters through her day - often on towering platforms.   Recently in London, Gaga left a Bikram Yoga class in Fall Runway.   She looked stunning styling the updated poncho / shawl that stole the show on Massimiliano's runway for Fall.  Keeping it tonal, Gaga wore a matching green skirt with signature resin buttons.  *This details has scored big points with editors around the world.  Lady Gaga's look also shows us how fluid fashion is.  When designers present looks on the runway, it is their vision from head to toe - exactly as they have planned it.   The minute these looks leave the runway however, they start to morph, or evolve.   Gaga stripped down a layer, exposing some skin.   She also wore colorful shoes and white sunglasses - giving the look a unique perspective.  This is fashion at it's best.  THE TROPICAL SILK SCARF BRIDGES SPRING AND FALL COLORS WITH EASE -* INTRODUCE DARK GREEN INTO HER WARDROBE TODAY A stylish woman who picks a look and have the courage to make it her own.   Designers don't always love seeing these new combinations, but it helps woman around the world relate to the look and start to think how they can wear pieces... on their own terms.  FALL RUNWAY EXIT 14 - THE PONCHO RE-INVENTED AT SALVATORE FERRAGAMO

This super chic street smart exit from the gym also has a bit of a back story.  Celebrities are known for being overdressed or "red carpet" ready in typically casual places.  However, pop sensation Taylor Swift has taken the post-work out style to a new level.  Paparazzi have made it a habit to catch Taylor as she leaves her gym in lower Manhattan - often looking better than most do on the way to a premiere.   Of course celebrities are not immune to feeling competitive with their style.  Gaga is the latest to look uber chic after the gym - stay tuned for more "pumped up" style post gym time.

Although most women won't (can't) be a slave to fashion like a celebrity will, there are always pieces from Pre-Fall that can be worn today.  Accessories are the bridge of course.  A killer pair of heels, a ring, or a silk scarf could never be tied to just one season!  This reboot of the pancho is also one to watch.  At Ferragamo we know the power and flexibility of asymmetric knits when they are luxurious, flattering, and easy to wear.  Knits have often been best sellers.   While often the pieces are from pre-collection, this Fall runway collection gives yet another invitation to the Fashion-Forward trend watcher.  When she does visit the boutique - you have so much to show her!

Cinderella SeasonNEW RESIN HEELS OFFERINGS IN STORE NOW FROM JIMMY CHOO, CALVIN KLEIN, AND GIANVITO ROSSI

A full page in the June Issue of Elle Magazine is dedicated to designer pumps with resin heels.   The look is modern, light, and to Ferragamo fans - familiar.   As is often the case, Salvatore Ferragamo was ahead of the current trend and featured several options with this detail last Fall.   It's not easy to know looks that can become a trend - especially when you are helping to set the trend.   *This is a great opportunity to reach out to any of your clients that bought resin detailed shoes.  Mention the editorial in the context of Ferragamo always knowing what will be hot - before it happens.  The resin heel adds a lightness to any look.  This use of mixed mediums is also part of the DNA of Ferragamo shoes.  Remind that best client with last years resin details that they bought it first at Ferragamo.  Then of course mention the most amazing pair of shoes or handbag that just arrived!  The Fall collection really speaks to a sophisticated shopper.  As Summer heats up, be ready for the chic fashion clients searching for looks they saw in print.  Images like the one of Lady Gaga in London help sell every product category from Sunglasses to Shoes to Fragrance.

This is the time of year when women start thinking about that big event they have in the Fall.  Sale shoppers stopping in to pick up that handbag or shoe they had been eyeing all season are likely to see the latest Fall item just arriving.  *Be sure to fill her in about so many others arriving any day.

One stop luxury shop every day at Salvatore Ferragamo.

"RAZZLE DAZZLE" IN VOGUE - JULY 2014 - FIAMMA MINI IN TWEED & CRYSTAL - $5,000, CELINE EMBELLISHED DRESS - $4,550.00 - SASHA PIVOVAROVA PH: KARIM SADLIIN THE PRESS

Press reaction to The Fiamma keeps coming in a big way this July!  Fireworks started the month, and Fiamma editorials are creating quite a sparkle of their own.   Vogue & Town & Country - two legendary fashion publications feature the Fiamma in beautiful full page photos in July & August.

Vogue's July issue with actress Lupita Nyong'o as their covergirl is one of the strongest issues the magazine has published in recent memory.  From the front to back cover (Michelle Williams for LV - another strong campaign) - the issue is a must buy for anyone who follows designer fashion. LUPITA - SHINING BRIGHT STAR - VOGUE JULY 2014

The Fiamma Mini in tweed and crystal is the perfect accessory for the RAZZLE DAZZLE - "What to wear where" story beautifully shot by Karim Sadli, and modeled by the stunning Sasha Pivovarova   Paired with a charm embellished Celine dress, the Fiamma Mini is sexy and mysterious.  The bag can add sparkle to even the most understated / simple dress.  The article suggest monochromatic pairings as a way to wear sequins and sparkles in the Summer.     Other handbags featured - Dior, Roger Vivier, & Dolce & Gabbana.   This Summer...."Shine bright like a diamond".DAKOTA FANNING - TOWN & COUNTRY MAGAZINE - AUGUST 2014

TOWN & COUNTRY MAGAZINE devotes a full page in the August 2014 issue to showcase a calfskin FIAMMA, the legacy of Fiamma Ferragamo, and princess Melusine Ruspoli - brand ambassador of the Fiamma project.  Her family legacy, like that of the Ferragamo family, is at it's core an Italian Legacy.

The strength of the Fiamma handbag is the range of women that can wear the bag, and wear it can be worn.  ROMAN PRINCESS MELUSINE RUSPOLI - WEARS SALVATORE FERRAGAMO *SHOWCASING THE CALFSKIN FIAMMA"- AS SEEN IN TOWN & COUNTRY - AUGUST 2014 Having the Fiamma featured in calfskin and python (Town & Country) and tweed and crystal (Vogue) on newstands at the same time is amazing publicity for this iconic new bag!  Suggest the bag, and a shoe that showcases her style today.

The August issue of Town & Country is also one of the strongest issues in recent months.   Actress Dakota Fanning skews a younger audience than the traditional T&C cover girls - making this a fantastic issue to be featured in!

ON TREND

While most of us are thinking bathing suits and beach towels,  the most important fashion magazines around the world are featuring Fall 2014's "Hottest" looks. SALVATORE FERRAGAMO FALL 2014 RUNWAY EXIT 5 - MOHAIR KNIT - $870 - METALLIC VISCOSE DRESS - $2,670.00  One major trend that Massimiliano Giornetti helped solidify for Fall - Earth tone Chunky Knits and Metallics.  Copper, Steel, and Gold all mix and mingle for Fall.  These styles are warm - but the look is cool - to say the least.  Vogue, Elle, and just about every magazine is featuring this knit trend now as the Fall previews begin.   Some embroidered, some just luxurious yarns - all in limited quantities - all items to collect.BALENCIAGA GEM ENCRUSTED KNIT - PRICE NOT LISTED - ARMANI SILK CADY PANTS -$2,080.00 AS SEEN IN VOGUE JULY 2014

While the trend can be styled to extreme on the runway or in editorials, this is a look almost every boutique client can wear. CHANEL SPRING 2014 LASER CUT IVORY HIGH TOPSCHANEL CASHMERE & VISCOSE KNIT - PRICE NOT LISTED - WOOL TWEED SKIRT $2,100.00 - AS SEEN IN ELLE MAGAZINE

STYLE IN TRAINING

Speaking of a trend that everyone can love - Sport - Sreetwear - Trainers - Sneakers - there are so many names for the shoes that were created to be the most casual of all shoes - that have now arrived front and center on fashion runways and in boutiques from California to Capri.SALVATORE FERRAGAMO SUEDE & PATENT HIGH TOPS - $550.00

Sneakers are all the rage in Women's fashion.SALVATORE FERRAGAMO LEATHER AND SHEARLING HIGH-TOP IN MOSS - $575.00  A trend that has been strong in Menswear for years is now all over the runways.   To be fair - Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton helped bring this look to the mainstream designer world.   Karl Lagerfeld was the designer to take it to the top - being the first to show tweed trainers on the CHANEL Haute Couture runway last Fall.  As often is the case, Karl then featured the look in the Spring RTW Collections.. and now on the Fall Runway as well.

To drive the point home, the WSJ Magazine featured a major shoot dedicated to Haute Couture and sneakers - the ultimate high / low statement.  Of course Salvatore Ferragamo has history with high-tops - they have been popular in the men's collection for several seasons.  VALENTINO HAUTE COUTURE DRESS - VALENTINO RTW SNEAKERS -$795.00It's exciting to see them in the Women's collection!  **THE STYLE ATTRACTS A NEW CLIENT BASE.**CHANEL FALL 2014 RTW TWEED SNEAKERS CHRISTIAN DIOR SNEAKERS - $1,200.00

Wearable, luxurious, and priced comfortably from $550.00 to$625.00.   Elsewhere fashion sneakers are retailing for $975.00 and $1,200.00  - In fact - the sneaker might be one of the most luxurious items we have seen in years.   After all, it's a shoe made with a sole that cannot be repaired.  Once it wears down - it's done.   lt is an ironic fact for a style that was originally created as the most casual, now coveted like a fine, rarified piece.   In fact - it is.

With the dramatic range in styles that are arriving in the boutique week after week, feel empowered with all the options you can present to clients.   A large collection is also a luxury.  It's easy to forget the Salvatore Ferragamo collection more styles and skus than many competitors combined.   More options than ever are in style for Fall 2014!

MAY-JOR ACCESSORY LAUNCH - CELEBRATING THE DNA OF FERRAGAMO

T MAGAZINE CELEBRATES THE WOMEN OF SALVATORE FERRAGAMO - FOUR GENERATIONS ALL CARRYING THE LEGACY OF SALVATORE INTO THE FUTURE PH: SIMON WATSONLEGACY OF LUXURY

May is a month full of life.  New life to be exact.   Birds are nesting, trees are sprouting, early flowers are blooming.  Optimism and encouragement is in the air.  In fashion, men and women get the itch for something new.   A new dress, new shoes, and of course a new handbag! BLACK CALFSKIN MINI FIAMMA - $1,650.00 It is with this sense of excitement we celebrate the latest launch in the Salvatore Ferragamo legacy of luxury.  One word - FIAMMA.   THE BLACK ALLIGATOR FIAMMA HANDBAG WITH GOLD TOP HANDLE HARDWARE - AS SEEN ON THE FALL 2014 RUNWAY- $27,000.00 Offered in a variety of leathers from calfskin to Alligator, in five different sizes - this is a major launch.

Fiamma Ferragamo was the eldest daughter of Salvatore. PYTHON & FOX FUR FIAMMA MINI -$4,900.00 From the time she was a child, Salvatore recognized her sense of fashion and encouraged her to join him in his burgeoning empire.  At 16 she did.  Salvatore's instincts were correct of course and with Fiamma by his side,  the dynamic and scope of the collection was changed forever.

FIAMMA FERRAGAMO SURROUNDED BY HER DESIGNSIn 1965 she would launch the accessory and RTW collection.  Fiamma also created the Vara, quite possibly the most iconic style the house has ever known.  In 1967, Fiamma, like Salvatore twenty years before, would receive the prestigious Oscar of Fashion presented by Neiman Marcus.  This would be the only time in history that a father and daughter would receive the prestigious award.  For over 40 years Fiamma would steer the creative direction of the company before her premature passing in 1998 at 57 years of age.  (Fiamma's passing warranted this heartfelt obituary in the New York Times - click Tribute to read).FASHION ECCENTRIC ANNA DELLA RUSSO WEARS STELLA McCARTNEY RTW AND FERRAGAMO FIAMMA HANDBAG -$1,650.00

(I've often spoken about the similarity between the houses of Coco Chanel and Salvatore Ferragamo.   Coco received the Oscar of Fashion, as did her successor Karl Lagerfeld.   Coco created the legacy, but it was Karl that designed the ballet flat that Chanel shoes are so known for.  Fiamma Ferragamo won the Oscar of Fashion, and created the Vara).

The FIAMMA handbag created by Massimiliano Giornetti celebrates all that Fiamma the woman represented:  Beauty and strength, with effortless style.  With rounded edges the bag gives maximum storage, without appearing to be a "large" bag.  Small or large, make no mistake -this bag is all fashion.  On it's own, it is hand-held with a curved top handle.   A detachable shoulder strap gives an added sense of sophistication, utility, and luxury.  *The details of a finely executed strap is a wonderful asset that showcases that extra level of craftsmanship.*  The double zipper adds more options and access to the bag, but also celebrates the luxury of the design.  Silk linings are yet another luxury detail,  in fact, a hidden luxury that is there for only the owner to enjoy.   With price ranges from $1,650.00 to $27,00.00 -there are options for all the Ferragamo women that shop in your boutique!

The May 7th launch of FIAMMA will be one worthy of a fashion icon.   A short film created exclusively for the occasion by award winning filmmakers Julian Ungano & Tommy Agroiodimas will showcase several generations of women from celebrated families around the world.  Fashionable women from Rome, Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Brazil, and a few additional global capitals, celebrating strong women,  showcasing the FIAMMA bag they have chosen that really speaks to her own sense of style.    The media promotion will be across all platforms from the .com, facebook, instagram, twitter, etc.   #theFIAMMA has already started trending.

*I'm predicting the "MINIS" will be best sellers as these little icons are hard to resist.  Miniature handbags were a huge fashion trend again in the Fall 2014 fashion shows.  An ultimate fashion statement with exquisite details*

A LOVE LETTER TO FIAMMA FERRAGAMO - COURTESY OF THE NEW YORK TIMES - T MAGAZINE - CLICK IMAGE TO WATCHTimed with the launch of the FIAMMA, the NY Times T Magazine released a spectacular portrait taken in March of all the women of Salvatore Ferragamo.   With matriarch Wanda Ferragamo surrounded by seventeen female family members, the majestic setting and impeccable style showcases this family beautifully. The accompanying video DEAR FIAMMA, a love letter  is narrated by the women of Ferragamo themselves- speaking of the late daughter, sister,  and aunt, not a memorial - but a celebration of her legacy.  This is an unprecedented tribute - fitting for a family with such a strong iconic image in the world of luxury fashion.   **To Watch the NY Times Video click the image above**   ARE YOU EXCITED YET?

OFF THE SHELVES

HARPER'S BAZAAR CELEBRATES THE "NEW" NEUTRALS OF SPRING 2014 - SALVATORE FERAGAMO KNIT TOP AND COTTON SKIRT PH: TERRY RICHARDSONWith the craze for color that the fashion world has seen in recent seasons, it took vision and a sense of daring for Massimiliano Giornetti to cleanse the palette for Spring with Neutral tones of RTW from head to toe.  He was ahead of the curve (again) and helped set one of the Chicest trends for Spring 2014.   Harper's Bazaar celebrates the "New Neutrals" in the May issue.CAROLINA HERRERA JACKET AND SKIRT, SALVATORE FERRAGAMO TOP AND HANDBAG - HARPER'S BAZAAR MAY 2014 - PH: TERRY RICHARDSON   Shot by "it" photog Terry Richardson, Salvatore Ferragamo runway not only headlines the story, but steals the show again just two pages later.  (of the 8 pages, Ferragamo is featured in 3) With chic dresses, skirts, and tops, it may be the most clothing Richardson has ever photographed.    Don't be afraid to suggest head-to-toe color.  As much as we love mixing and matching colors and textures, these photos prove that sometimes - monochromatic IS the way to go!

In the same May issue, the magazine shot a beautiful story on the "Best of Swim " showcasing the chicest swimwear from the world of designer fashion.  Chanel, Eres, Bottega Veneta, and Salvatore Ferragamo are among the most fashionable items showcased.  LILY DONALDSON WEARS A FERRAGAMO BANDEAU, ERES BOTTOM, AND CARTIER WATCH IN HARPER'S BAZAAR MAY 2014 - PH: SEBASTIAN FAENA Remember, when a designer client is looking for "swimwear"... swimming doesn't have to be in the conversation.  Most of the hottest swimsuits ever designed weren't meant to get wet.    Swimwear stories can mean only one thing - Summer is coming!

APRIL 2014 PART II - "FASHION" IN FULL FOCUS

The WSJ magazine created still life photos for the April edition entitled "Tableau Vivant" - a nod to the eclectic combinations seen in the photos, but also a nod to the wild assortment of seasonal trends this Spring ... among them a Celine Cuff -$820.00, Alexander McQueen Skull clutch -$2,395.00, a Dries Van Noten leather necklace -$185.00, a Lanvin Green Leather clutch -$1,385.00, and a Salvatore Ferragamo Resin Minaudiere - $1,650.00- Just dreamy! Photography by Alice Gao, Styling by Jocelyne BeaudoinOFF THE SHELVES

It's only April, but the Fashion world has had enough major developments to fill 12 months worth of press releases!  What's the big takeaway so far?   Following in the footsteps of Salvatore Ferragamo, other major fashion houses continue to invest in RTW!  Let's take a look at two collections that are relevant to the Ferragamo shopper.

TOD'S -This Italian house of leather accessories -(formerly JP TOD'S) has put their fashion direction front and center over the last year.   In February of 2013 owner and chairmen Diego Della Valle named Alessandra Facchinetti creative director of the brand. TOD'S D-CUBE - MICRO BOWLER BAG - $1,375.00 **COLORBLOCK** With previous gigs at Valentino and Gucci, there was no doubt that a big fashion statement was soon to been seen from Facchinetti at TOD'S.   In september, she staged the first fashion show the house had ever seen.  (The company built an empire creating private label shoesLUXURIOUS LEATHER FROM HEAD TO TOE AT TOD'S for American department stores for decades before Della Valle launched a signature collection - the company also owns Hogan and Roger Vivier). BOLD RETRO PRINT IN A SOPHISTICATED PALETTE AT TOD'S This inaugural show was celebrated for it's use of leather, a natural strong point for a house known for "Made in Italy" accessories.PALLADIO ORB HARDWARE ADORN THIS COLORBLOCKED TOP HANDLE CALFSKIN BAG AT SALVATORE FERRAGAMO $1,650.00   In February, it was round two with another strong runway collection - heavily focussed on leather pieces again, from tunics to skirts, and some noteworthy outerwear.   The season also saw the release of the D-Micro Bowler Bag - hitting on the color block trend of the last two seasons.

LOUIS VUITTON - I don't often write "good" news about the house of LV.  Two reasons.  1) - the house is owned by Bernard Arnault, the man personally resposible forSTRUCTURED COLORBLOCKING FROM NICOLAS GHESQUIRE AT LOUISE VUITTON making the world of luxury fashion all about profit margin and ROI (not creativity and refinement), and 2) Marc Jacobs was creative director of the house and I resent the fact that his own global LOUIS VUITTON "TRUNK BAG" BY NICOLAS GHESQUIREbrand turned plastic junk made in China a normal occurance in major fashion collections. MINI "TRUNK CHARMS" AT LOUIS VUITTON  Well, a new day has dawned at this French house of the original logo bag!   Jacobs is out (said to be pushed by Arnault himself) and Nicholas Ghesquiere is in.   Ghesquiere was previously creative director of Balenciaga and his loyal following include fashion icons like Catherine Deneuve (Google her right now if you don't know who she is) and Hollywood A names like Jennifer Connelly.   This is a major statement by Bernard Arnault - naming a designer known for his RTW - not bags - as the creative director of Louis Vuitton.   During Marc Jacobs tenure, few women even looked at the LV RTW.

MAJOR RTW FOCUS TO BE SEEN AT LV!LEATHER & TWEED AT LOUIS VUITTON

Get ready for red carpet attention from the house that trunks built! READY-TO-WEAR REBOOT BY NICOLAS GHESQURE AT LOUIS VUITTON  Speaking of, Ghesquiere paid homage to the legacy of this storied empire by creating gorgous mini-trunk handbags forLV LOGO BOOTIE - REBIRTH OF THE SHOE-BOOT! the runway and even smaller little "Trunk Charms" worn as necklaces as well!   the LV monogram was front and center.. but Ghesquiere has the class and craft to make it look seemless and appropriate.

How is this relevant to associates at Salvatore Ferragamo?  Any time that another major fashion house puts focus on their ready-to-wear it causes a ripple in the designer shoppers awareness.   The more they hear about designer RTW, the more likely they are to look at it and potentially buy it from Ferragamo.   Additonally, strong runway shows from any major house puts focus on strong handbags and shoes.   Salavtore Ferragamo benefits here because the house has more sku's on the floor than many brands combined.    An investment in luxury is a win-win for Ferragamo!

LEGACY OF LUXURY

FERRAGAMO TIME

HARPER'S BAZAAR SHOWS US THAT LIFE IS A BEACH WITH SALVATORE FERRAGAMO - THIS TWO PIECE ENSEMBLE MADE A STRONG STATEMENT ON THE RUNWAY - BUT LOOKS JUST AS SEXY IN THE SAND (PRESS ONLY)As more and more magazines frequently feature Salvatore Ferragamo RTW, we can see a comfort level has developed.   Editors now knowTWO PIECE EVENING DAZZLER ON THE RUNWAY SPRING 2014 Massimiliano Giornetti's style and sensibility.  We also see the stylist feeling more comfortable to incorporate Ferragamo in fashion forward spreads.  It is a clear indication that a brand is relevant when editors showcase items not exactly as it is seen on the runway, but in the editors vision of how designer RTW matters most and how it should (could) be worn.   The latest issues of Harper's Bazaar, Elle, and the NY Times Magazine all feature major runway looks from Ferragamo - all showcased in a totally different look , with very different girls.  This Spring season is so interesting because there are two very different trends happening side by side.  On the one hand there SALVATORE FERRAGAMO TRENCH COAT (EXIT 15 -$3,300.00) IN THE NEW YORK TIMES MAGAZINE. THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX WHEN PUTTING TOGETHER AN ENSEMBLE - BE READY FOR THIS LOOK! is a strong minimalist vibe happening with simple shapes in beiges, blacks, and tans - at the same moment that maximum color and print are all over - the brighter the better.  Ultimately, given women more opportunities to find their own look.

The New York Times Magazine story "A Little to the Imagination" set out to show the masculine / feminine trend that is also a big part of Spring.  I'm not sure if this look does that, but it does show us an ensemble I would'nt have thought of.  (Actually when I was a kid, my pediatrician dressed just like this. SALATORE FERAGAMO WOOL JACKET AND PANT, OVER PYHON BRA TOP of EXIT 14 -$1,850.00 My brother and I called her a "crunchy granola". RETRO SANDAL WITH PALLADIO ORB HARDWARE - $575.00 Who knew she was ahead of her time).   If the clients style leads you there, don't hesitate to suggest a great sandal with a tailored runway look.

At ELLE Magazine, the story "Box Seat" set out to showcase the minimalist trend, while maintaining a sexy sensability with bandau tops - also so on trend.  Ferragamo hit those looks spot on!

As a brand, Salvatore Ferragamo somehow represents most of these trends - in fact, setting some.  Another sign of Ferragamo's relevance in the Fashion scene  of 2014.   The house that Salvatore built is everywhere a brand wants to be!
