IT'S 11/15 - DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR GIFTS ARE?
HOME (Furnishing) FOR THE HOLIDAYS?
Thanksgiving is just two weeks away, so that means the gift giving season is almost upon us. Adding to the frenzy of post turkey day shopping is the fact that Thanksgiving and Chanukah will overlap this year. (something that will not happen again until 2070). It all adds up for a Happy Holiday season in our boutiques! The stock market is booming, real estate values are climbing, and our wealthiest clients are feeling more confident to spend then they have in several years.
*The world of interior design is always a good indicator of how luxury fashion is selling.* People planning multi-million dollar renovations and/or purchases, can buy a two thousand dollar handbag - without giving it too much thought. Don't ever accept " I can't spend a cent, we're doing the house" as a reason NOT to encourage a client to buy the hottest bag, shoe, or jacket of the season. She can afford it. Trust me. The good news is that interior designers are as busy as Santa's elves this year!
Add to this the fact that the world of interior design has melded right into fashion. Notice how fashion magazines now feature a celebrity or fashion designer's home almost every month. Industry Insight: Vogue magazine hired away top editor Mieke Ten Have from Elle Decor earlier this year to be Vogue's first ever Home editor. Mieke's wedding was then profiled in a multi page spread in the magazine and the website a few months later. That's big! *Suggest cashmere shawls and silk scarves as decorative items. Contact any friends or clients that are interior designers and help them see Ferragamo in a whole new way* The ultra-chic renovations and new boutique designs utilizing the most luxurious materials are sure to be impressive to any interior design professional you invite to your store.
LEGACY OF LUXURY - POP Goes the ART World
Trends in the modern art world are as fickle as those in fashion. Modern art and fashion play similar roles in decorating the world we live in. Pop Art has become the hottest market around the world for the newly rich and trendy collector. Last week artist Jeff Koons became the highest paid living artist in history when Christie's Auction House in NY sold one of his Balloon Dog (Orange) Sculptures for $58.4 Million dollars. (Is it me, or does designer fashion suddenly seem value priced!?). There is no doubt that Koon's "it" factor has increased since the swirl of press surrounding his collaboration with Lady Gaga went into high gear with the release of her latest album ARTPOP. Koons created a sculpture of Gaga for the cover - tying his current trend of mirror balls with his iconic-lifelike sculptures that first made him famous. Layer in the fact that Gaga gave Ferragamo a performance artist platform when she went gaga for Massimiliano's hounds tooth collection for Fall 2011 collection.
Right on trend, Massimiliano Giornetti's color blocked creations in RTW, Accessories, and Costume Jewelry feel as current and modern as a Koon's puppy! Harper's Bazaar gave a full page of opening credits to the beautifully blocked colorful bracelet in stores now.
In addition to the creative collections coming from Milan is Salvatore Ferragamo's collaboration with the Wallis Center in Beverly Hills. A project spear headed by the US based executive team, this partnership with Wallis Annenberg has the potential to boost Ferragamo's standing in the elite circles of LA's movers and shakers for many years to come.
FERRAGAMO TIME
We talk often about the fact that a few key designers shape the trends that influence the entire industry. Salvatore Ferragamo's Ready-To-Wear has certainly been elevated to new platform (pardon the pun) in the last few years. This Fall, Massimiliano's simplest and sheerest pieces are cornerstones of major editorial stories! Showcased alongside Stella McCartney, Oscar de la Renta, Manolo Blahnik, and other major fashion labels, Ferragamo is as hot as it gets. **Think outside the box when suggesting items and combinations. This applies to shoes, handbags, and of course clothing.** This month, two major fashion publications feature Salvatore Ferragamo RTW in full page editorials in their cover stories. Both magazines chose strikingly similar looks. In Town & Country Magazine, indie actress and icon of New York's downtown scene - Chloe Sevigny is all dressed up as the magazine profiles her ability to maintain her anti-establishment image, despite her taste for shopping sprees at Bergdorf Goodman.
In Harper's Bazaar's "Daring" issue, the magazine chose none other than Truth or Dare-devil herself Madonna as their cover girl. Shot by Terry Richardson, Madonna defies gravity and just about everything else with a no holds barred essay. Inside the magazine, Harper's chose "IT" girls and socialites who dare to be different for their "Elegance with a dash of daring". Model and Designer Annabelle Dexter Jones is gorgeous in a Stella McCartney Yellow coat and Salvatore Ferragamo sheer top and skirt. Proving the versatility of the seasons knitwear - sometimes you don't have to find the perfect underpinning!
Once again, the luxury shopping mecca known as the Americana Manhasset wins hands down for most inspiried "local" campaign. The message is clear - it's going to be a colorful Christmas season this year! The Americana chose a "Holiday at the Seashore" theme. A classic American scene - showcasing the best in European design. The magical light at the beach has attracted artists, photographers, and writers for centuries. Colors are crisper, sharper, and shades of blue are even more flattering. (keep this in mind when planning a vacation wardrobe for that special client).
THE GO-TO GIFT FOR YOURSELF
A very chic client I used to work with once told me her style secret "With great boots and a bag, I can go anywhere". That was her secret, and your secret is that Salvatore Ferragamo has several killer boots in the collection this holiday season... if they are not sold out already. With prices ranging from $950.00 to $1,590.00, these beautiful boots might be the least expensive item on her shopping list. Every client shopping for gifts should be tempted with a pair of boots or booties. They are timeless, versatile, and give good ego! The Military Deerskin boot for the Chrome Hearts Girl, The Suede Zipper Boot for the Sexy Girl, and the Suede Wedge Boot is for every Girl in so many situations. The suede wedge is the boot that goes from day to night, from office to airport. In fact, with a tight red dress and those suede boots, a girl could make a nice boy naughty with just a twinkle of her nose! Start making your list.
