SPRING FLING -LAST CHANCE - MAY 15TH - 2012
OFF THE SHELVES
The middle of May is here and that means several things. The nicest weather of the year is just around the corner, Spring fashion is at its most relevant moment, and designer fashion houses are about to break sale to make way for the Fall collections being crafted as I type. Take advantage of this time of year when shoppers start to "need" items to fill out the wardrobe they are planning for Summer plans. There is nothing more enticing to shoppers than warm weather and fashion designs produced in limited quantities!
Spring editorials are also bursting with red hot shots of RTW, Handbags, Shoes, and Costume Jewelry. It is interesting to see the effect that fashion blogs continue to have on traditional publishing. Tommy Ton of Jak & Jill continues to work with Fashion magazines through his "street style" fashion format that raced on the scene with the success of The Sartorialist. Tommy's Spring spread in May 2012 Harper's Bazaar celebrates the playfulness of the season, and also gives proof of Ferragamo RTW having completely enchanted the fashion editors. The highly ruched (say Rooshed) bodice of this Silk strapless gown is hardly casual, but this editorial shows how powerful a picture can be to young fashion fans around the world. To young girls everywhere the name Ferragamo is now on the short list of designer CLOTHING references. Celine, Chanel, Gucci, Stella McCartney, Ferragamo, Valentino, Bottega Veneta, & Prada fill page after page. Test yourself and your co-workers to identify what customers are wearing when they shop. Take note of brands you see often and know what items to suggest to that next shopper.
By all means, suggest dresses and gowns to all fashion clients buying handbags or shoes. There are not so many places Women can find designer gowns that are wearable, made in Italy, and below $10,000.00. Challenge yourself to have at least one client a day trying on a RTW look. A great shoe can lead to a great dress purchase. Remember, it's our job to educate young shoppers on the luxury of wearing designer RTW. Once a women experiences a silk blouse, a finely tailored trouser, or a hand crafted gown - she is usually a customer for life. Take advantage of knowing you are selling clothing not available anywhere else in your shopping center or city for that matter!
**This couldn't be more important to very lucky young ladies now shopping for Prom Dresses. Don't forget that the American Prom is unique around the world. No other country has the formality and extravagance of a high school prom like we have here in the United States. This strapless gown would be THE dress of any prom. It is also sophisticated and totally appropriate, unlike so many prom dresses these days that are downright tacky. Suggest this to the next group of young girls that swarm through the shopping center looking for Prom suggestions** See you at the dance!
LEGACY OF LUXURY
Some of the hottest looks for Fall 2012 are already finding their way into May magazines. A return to structure and tailoring were two trends on runways in Europe. Also, one universal theme in the world of luxury fashion made its way through collections in Italy and France. Train travel. There is something romantic and exclusive about the idea of cross country trains from days gone by. Long before smartphones and ipads, when trips were really a journey. Massimiliano Giornetti continues to tap into designer references that make magazine editors dream about the editorials they will create. Mr. Giornetti took the opportunity to present the Pre-Fall collection to editors for the first time in the history of Ferragamo RTW. The venue was the VIP waiting room of the Milan Train Station. A room once reserved for royalty and the rich and famous. Needless to say the collection was ultra-luxurious from head to toe. One jaw-dropping accessory is already getting attention from fashion editors. Exotic Train Cases! The structure of these accessories screams luxury! Having a retro-chic appeal for the woman who has everything. Her luggage is as important as her shoes. She travels in style with trunks and cases. Why pack light when you can have these luxurious accessories? (Let's face it - this is not a client worried about baggage fees!). Louisiana Alligator is the finest in the world, and help to make this case the most exclusive most people will ever see. With a price of $31,500.00, this is an accessory to show every client looking at handbags. Start the buzz now and think about who could own one of these today. This case ships late September, so take the opportunity to plan accordingly. Only the biggest fashion houses are offered the finest Alligator skins in this very regulated industry, and Ferragamo has invested in a dozen of these for the U.S. market!
FERRAGAMO TIME
With so much attention being given to the modern aspects of today's collection, let's take a moment to reflect on the strength of the Ferragamo name. Salvatore Ferragamo was ahead of his time in so many ways. However, he was also a man that had great pride and respect for his heritage. His love of all things Italian were evident in every design he created. So great was this love that Mr. Ferragamo left the glamorous world of Hollywood, in it's golden age, to return to Italy and properly begin the House of Ferramo in Florence. The sophisticated essence of Tuscany and the region were not lost on Salvatore. His instincts told him that chic women should be flattered by designer merchandise, never overshadowed. No better example of this ideal is the Gancio itself. Adopted by Ferragamo as one of his most symbolic icons, the gancio (gancho in Spanish) is a historic symbol found in Florence. Used in centuries past to tie horses, this symbol of strength makes a powerful reference - without saying a word. Tango fans from Argentina know the symbol as something more seductive, but either way - this semicircle shape - "hooks" you! Talk about the Gancio with your next clients, I guarantee the story will charm them... and then they are hooked!
