SS 2011 - IT'S A JUNGLE OUT THERE!
LEGACY OF LUXURY
Nothing says luxury like hand crafted details. As we have discussed in previous FEEDs, there is a huge trend in fashion to draw attention to any extra manufacturing details. For some brands it is a true novelty, as the majority of items are mass produced. For a brand like Ferragamo, the attention to detail and hand crafted nature of all products are part of the DNA of the house. For Spring 2011, Ferragamo leads with iconic brands in Fashion in taking detail to the limit by featuring Crochet items and woven material in RTW, Handbags, & Shoes. Again, looking to the orginal designs of Salvatore Ferragamo gives the entire industry a source of inspiration.
The 1970's served as a brilliant showcase for handcrafted detail delivered through an earth friendly folk-bohemian message. The decade known for hippies and beatniks is now the biggest source of creative inspiration all fashion runways.
At Dior, John Galliano put the handicraft of Macramé center stage in his tropical voyage collection that made its debut in Paris.
In Milan, Massimiliano Giornetti's Ferragamo collection featured Crocheted dresses and embroidered skirts in his interpretation of the hands-on detailing of the sexy 70's made modern.
In New York, Ralph Lauren stuck to his own brand icons in showing white embroidered sun dresses worn back to Cowboy and Western accessories. Ralph Lauren is a brand to keep in mind when you are suggesting how to merchandise key styles that attract international shoppers. RL has made a major expansion in Europe and Asia in the last 3 years and what that means is - luxury shoppers traveling the U.S. will be visiting the RL stores on their shopping itinerary. While our U.S. customers might think of Ralph Lauren more for sportswear, international clients have a newer and more luxurious image of the brand. It is important for us to know what shoppers are talking about and more importantly, what they are buying. That way, it is so much easier to suggest items to build her wardrobe.
With that in mind, reference the super SAFARI CHIC shoes that are in the Ferragamo boutiques now. The combination of leather and fabric gives that natural vibe we mentioned from the 70's - at the same time referencing Safari themes in color and texture in a sophisticated runway style. A perfect shoe for the Jungle print OR any of the Crochet and Macramé pieces I just referenced. All three styles are also available with black trim and range in price from $475 with leather to $1,100.00 with Ostrich! Let your customers know that you are on top of the the biggest trends happening in fashion. Remember - keeping relevant is key!
OFF THE SHELVES
One Spring fashion trend is also a classic reference for the chicest collections from Milan & Paris. Floral & Animal prints are both signs of sophistication and elegance which are worn by fashion forward & traditional clients alike. For Spring 2011, animal and floral designs combined in the Ferragamo "Jungla" print. A majestic Tiger reigns over this garden utopia showcasing a rainbow of colors on this magically neutral print.
In addition to being a chic fashion reference, this Tiger print also showcases a powerful symbol in the Chinese culture. In Chinese animal symbolism the Tiger can reference: Power, Energy, Royalty, Protection, Generosity, Illumination, & is associated with Tsai Shen Yeh - The Chinese God of wealth. Yellow tigers are, in fact, considered the supreme ruler of the jungle and are symbolic of the Sun.
As many of our boutiques have already witnessed, tourists from Mainland China are visiting the U.S. in greater numbers than we have ever seen before. How exciting for Ferragamo to have this welcoming and lucky symbol of Chinese culture in the Handbag, RTW, Scarf, & Sunglass collections! (The knit twin sets are a perfect gift for a classic customer). Familiarize yourself today with the prints and especially the exciting reversible handbags! While most customers rarely do reverse items that have the feature - it remains a great selling point and adds value to any style.
FERRAGAMO "RED CARPET" TIME
While most of our focus here on the FEED is dedicated to the ladies, our Men's collection deserves credit for keeping the guys looking cool at the office, in the clubs, and especially on the Red Carpet. One handsome guy that stopped traffic at the Golden Globes was Best Actor nominee Ryan Gosling. Gosling was nominated for his performance in Blue Valentine. He never looked more Golden Globe worthy in his Ferragamo Tuxedo! See you at the Oscars.
