ROCK-N-ROSE COLORED GLASSES

LADY GAGA IN LINDA FARROW "MINI-MOUSE" SHADESWhile glasses have typically been associated with librarians and maths Ph.Ds rather than the world of rock ‘n roll, sunglasses have a coolness factor all of their own.   Many famous musicians take to the microphone wearing a wide variety of glasses, from the zany and unusual to more reserved prescription glasses.

In the pop genre, singersKATY PERRY IN RETRO 80'S GLASSES like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have often sported their own brand of eyewear. Katy Perry usually chooses sweet, whimsical glasses that often have an 80s themed edge. Lady Gaga wears everything from bright-coloured eyewear to large, oversized glasses that seem to defy gravity. Both ladies have inspired a bevy of fashionistas to don their own pop-style glasses for everyday use.

Rock musicians like Rod Stewart sometimes sport a pair of horn rimmed glasses when trying to add a touch of class to their ensemble. Rock star Ozzy Osbourne has long been known for his round, purple-tinted glasses both on and off the stage. Both rockers have done much to turn around the stereotype that glasses are just for the straight laced, button up types.
CEE LO GREEN - SPARKLES ALL AROUND

Hip hop artists like Cee Lo Green have made eyeglasses a part of their signature look. Green’s over the top glasses come in several styles and are often embellished with crystals and glitter. It seems, when it comes to Cee Lo, the more off the wall the better. The flamboyant look works for the singer’s personality, which is over the top in its own right.

Rappers are often known for their eyewear, choosing cool, stylish frames that are sometimes understated, and sometimes a show stopper. P-Diddy
and Kanye West are two rappers who have both made fashion statements with their eyewear. Puff Daddy even incorporated glasses into his clothing and accessories line. Kanye West’s plastic, neon-coloured styled glasses quickly became a hit with young, fashion-forward club goers.

ELTON JOHN AND HIS LEGENDARY SHADES - CIRCA 1972Of course, no conversation about musician eyewear would be complete without mentioning the iconic Elton John. Elton’s range of eyeglasses is colourful, vibrant and always unique. Glasses are an accessory that you can instantly associate with the musical legend. Whether the glasses are rainbow coloured or covered in sequins, it’s clear Elton John has a passion for creative and wacky eyewear.

It seems sunglasses are an ensemble standard for most famous musicians, some of whom even wear dark tinted sunglasses indoors or during the evening. Famous songstress Mariah Carey wearsMADONNA IN SHADES IN LONDON a variety of sunglasses both day and night, from large, Jackie O style shades to smaller, bejeweled glasses.

Ultimately, the use of glasses in the world of music is as varied as the artists we know and love from the radio. Following the styles and trends of music celebs is an exciting way to keep up with the fashionable world of music, and to keep you guessing as to what your favourite rock star will step out in next.  Working one of  those looks to use into your own wardrobe is an ideal way to bring the music world closer to home.  Even if you can't sing, you can still look cool while listening!
