LORDE & HER ROYALS
If you're sick of seeing champagne and diamonds in every music video, hearing about it in song after song, then you should love LORDE. This 16 year old teenager from New Zealand sings about the overkill of luxury that record labels and artists living in the bubble of success assume every kid aspires to. Born and raised in a working class neighborhood of Auckland, this soulful voice burst onto the scene with her first EP "The Love Club" was released in November 2012, and her first album "Pure Heroine" was just released in September 2013. Her single ROYALS shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, a first for a New Zealander! Lorde sings about hanging out, finding your way in the world, and all the wonderful melancholy feelings that go along with being a teenager without a black card! How refreshing to see a young singer NOT singing about bottle service in the club! Clearly this has struck a chord with kids buying music. Much along the lines of Taylor Swift in her video for 22, and Miley Cyrus in her We Can't Stop, these ladies are bringing house parties back to the people. Think kegs not Cristal.
