Jeanne Moreau knows One Day You'll Understand

One Day You'll Understand.... This movie covers the very sensitive subject of a family's involvement in the Nazi regime during Word War II. More to the point, it is the uncertainty of a son trying to uncover information about that involvement from a mother who has locked this memory away, with a promise to never revisit it. Director Amos Gitai does a brilliant job to show the passion of a son's quest for the truth and also the pain of a mother -(played by French screen legend Jeanne Moreau) - who has made a different life for her family and would do anything to keep the truth hidden.

The Quad Cinema on west 13th street in NYC is a landmark for independent films that are often missed by the multiplexes at the mall.

To check movie times, go to the quad's website. To watch a trailer of this brilliant film - go the the official website.

**Regular readers will remember that Jeanne Moreau was mentioned in the Chanel Mobile Art post as she narrates the experience of all visitors to the pavillion.

Whatever Lola Wants.....

Whatever Lola Wants......

A newly restored version of the classic 1955 movie LOLA MONTES is playing in an exclusive showing at New York's FILM FORUM from Oct.10th -30th.

This film is beautiful and surreal and has a dreamlike quality to it as it weaves the real life tale of one of the most provocative female entertainers we have ever known.   She was a dancer who was as famous for her wealthy lovers as she was for her stage work.  She debuted on the London stage and billed herself as "LOLA MONTES.. the Spanish Dancer".  In reality she was born in Ireland and spent part of her childhood in India.MADONNA - CONFESSIONS TOUR

Montes (or Montez) was a true trailblazer.   She was at the height of her career in the 1840's.. a century before women had the right to vote or there were other feminists such as Coco Chanel or Sarah Bernhardt.   I actually wrote about Montes as the inspiration for Madonna for the Confession tour.. click the link below for that post, and get to the film forum asap.. or check the art house theater schedule in your town!  Watch the trailer below - and find the DVD.
