OFF THE SHELVES
Labor day has come and gone, and even though you will here "Summer's Over" more than once this week, there are still a few more beach weekends for the fashionable crowd. As our ladies who lunch start closing down the beach houses, or transitioning to the "country house" for the Fall - there are so many wonderful pieces arriving in the boutique to catch her attention. If children are in the picture, she is already back. The kids started school, she had the big reckoning appointment with the colorist to "salvage" what she did to her hair at the beach, and most importantly - she is looking for a few new little somethings to perk up that wardrobe!
No White after Labor Day you say? No, I'm sure you don't say that. This fashion "rule" is about as relevant as "no matching" or "don't wear blue and green together". All three of these ideas are now absolutely on trend and whtie after Labor Day is a must (despite what Grandma said). With several white pieces in the Fall collection, Ferragamo RTW is helping to set the trends as we head into 2014. However, for September editors turned to black for a few key features. The biggest issues of the year are out - and BIG doesn't begin to describe them. I must admit, I devour magazines the weekend after I get them. I tried to carry Elle, Vogue, & Harper's Bazaar in one bag over Labor Day - and I swear I almost sprained my shoulder! There is so much Salvatore Ferragamo editoral out there for September it's hard to keep up... but I'll give you a recap with a twist.
While head-to-toe white is West Coast Cool, it would be hard to imagine strolling up Madison avenue in the Fall in White on White on White, but certainly mixing a white coat with black accessories is uber chic. In fact, a mix of Black, White, & Metallic Grays are a safe bet in any town. In the North East and North West - darker colors seem to work more often. In the Southern States white can be a neutral all year round. Both EllE and Harper's Bazaar's September issues gives us great black & white looks in a shoots devoted to a trend we discussed in August. COATS. More features on outer wear means that all the fashion magazines know that designers have invested millions in producing some of the most luxurious options shoppers have seen in years. Salvatore Ferragamo is giving her White, Black, or Navy shades in double or single breasted options.
In Harper's Bazaar, we see the play of proportions and layers. An oh-so-cozy wool coat against the asymmetric tiered skirt - both runway stars. Both wearable - this century and next!
The gorgeous Ireland Baldwin, daughter of Kim Bassinger and Alec Baldwin showcases some of Falls finest outer wear shapes in EllE Magazine. Hugging her beautiful six foot tall shape is a fitted knit top by Ferragamo. The perfect underpinning for any sheer knit, or a great piece worn under any tailored jacket, this knit can also be a knockout on it's own. * Never underestimate how one item like one of the sleeveless turtlenecks / bandage knit tops that were key on the Ferragamo runway can really make an outfit. A great option to offer clients who have purchased jackets in the past, or the perfect underpinning to the various jackets offered for Fall. * These tops are the perfect piece for a daughter to borrow - perhaps to go back to a miniskirt or novelty jeans? * Be warned.. there are only a handful of these pieces bought for the US market. Be ready to tell clients that the style is "sold out". This is a great opportunity to create a buzz with the trendiest of fashion shoppers. With a retail range from $390.00 to $550.00 - they might be gone already!
MERCHANT'S MIX
Over the last 3 years the Ferragamo collection has been transformed from appropriately chic pieces, to fashionable "must-haves". By now, you should be courting the fashionistas in your community. The women who read the magazines almost a month in advance, the same ladies that watch the runway shows on Style.com You know have her attention. Two perfect styles that drive this point home are featured in Harpers' Bazaar in September. Shot in portrait and titled "Perfect Match" - T-strap stilettos paired with the calfskin camera bag are both coveted items. Both make a statement. Stilettos are all attitude. The camera bag can say retro 60's or futuristic 2060 - she can decide, with your help.
ELLE chose to spotlight ROYAL BLUE & NAVY as a trend for Fall. Salvatore Ferragamo joins Pierre Hardy, Celine, Rolex, Jil Sander and more with the suede Sofia with Gold details.. another collectible bag at $1,650. (This Purple Sofia and those Hardy boots together are CRAZY!!)
FERRAGAMO TIME
As styles evolve through the decades, sometimes retro is a relative term. The latest world famous recording artist captured by the paparazzi wearing Salvatore Ferragamo is media darling Taylor Swift. Photographed in a printed sun dress and Ferragamo wedges - the whole look could have been shot in the 1920's when Salvatore himself was handmaking shoes in the Hollywood Bootshop in California. Taylor Swift is a breath of fresh air in the world of music these days. Compared to the other singers her age, Ms. Swift is always a class act. Taylor seems to love the glamour her global fame has afforded her. Wearing Ferragamo out and about in Los Angeles is not only chic, it's a tradition!
