STRUCTURED FALL W BAGThe W bag was launched in the Fall 2010 collection and was a  definite stand out on the runway.  There is something so chic and iconic about the bag that the reaction received was instantaneous!   As is so often the case with an iconic accessory - sometimes you just know when a style is right.   W SOFT IN RED CALFSKIN With that in mind, how exciting to announce that the W  is going forward in future deliveries and will be joined by a softer version of the bag.   While the original W is sleek and structured, the soft version will be slightly rounder and more feminine - giving the wearer even more opportunities to accessorize the look. 

The original W is right on trend for Fall, as one of the biggest looks of the season is the tailored style of the Charlie Girl (you read it here first back in August!).   Fashion collections from Celine to Hermes to Ralph Lauren all featured the trouser paired with sleek, somber accessories.   The androgynous style of the W is so perfect for the sophisticated leather goods consumer.  W SOFT IN PURPLE PYTHON  This high-end shopper is no logo lady.   These women let design speak for itself.  

Named for matriarch Wanda Ferragamo, the W bag is a chic tribute to the namesake of this very luxurious House of Italian fashion.   Wanda Ferragamo has kept the vision of Salvatore alive for more than 50 years since his untimely passing in 1960.

The W bag will also be the center of attention on Friday September 10th at the NYC Ferragamo Flagship Boutique.   By now you know that is the date of Fashion's Night Out - the second year of Vogue's Editor in Chief -Anna Wintour party night to celebrate fashion from coast to coast!   The W bag will be on center stage in various incarnations to show shoppers what is coming in the months ahead.    Also on September 10th, the W will officially launch on-line on Ferragamo.com.   Are you starting to get the feeling this is not your average handbag?  Great! 

Keep in mind the accessory mailer featuring the W bag dropped in mid-August.  That means your customers have the mailer at home now.   As many are just getting back from summer holiday trips or ending their pilgrimage to their summer homes - what a great time to be reminding telling them about the W!  Also, remember that delivery of the W structured bag from the runway is just hitting boutiques.

LEGACY OF LUXURY

FERRAGAMO BOUTIQUE, MONACO AT THE HERMITAGE HOTELMonaco and all that glitters!  The lure of the rich and famous and the spoils of luxury are on display in no greater way than in Monte Carlo, Monaco.  As I decamped to the South of France this August, I had to visit this fantasy land.  The tiny principality on the French Riviera is just 1.25 square miles - making it the smallest state in Europe after the Vatican.    Residents have the highest per capita income in the world.   FASHION SPY AT FERRAGAMO BOUTIQUE IN MONACOThat is quite a fact!   Also, its status as a tax haven has led investors to keep billions of dollars in the hundreds of banks based here.   It is no surprise that fashion is on display all around, with the biggest names having charming little boutiques to service clients with essential brand icons.    (Luxury leaders also have boutiques nearby in Cannes).   

Ferragamo has a key location in a beautiful setting at the Hermitage Hotel - where else!  It was bumper to bumper Bentleys in front of the boutique the day I visited.  

We talked about Monaco and Princess Grace on the FEED last year in reference to Claudia Schiffer channeling Grace Kelly in the Ferragamo Spring 2010 campaign.  It was Grace Kelly who put Monaco back on the map and raised the prestige factor when she left Hollywood to marry Prince Ranier in 1957.   She brought all the attention of Hollywood with her!

STELLA TENNANT FOR FERRAGAMO BY BRUCE WEBERFall 2010 sees another super model taking the baton as the star of the Ferragamo campaign.   Stella Tennant is back!  Having taken a few years off for motherhood, this alluring beauty if in all the fashion magazines.   Speaking of royalty, Stella  also happens to be the granddaughter of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.   In addition to Ferragamo, Stella is the face of the Reed Krakoff campaign for Fall.   That is a name you should know as he is the designer who turned Coach in a global giant. STELLA TENNANT FOR REED KRAKOFF FALL 2010  Krakoff has launched his namesake collection and intends to make it a luxury American brand.   He is backed by all the billions of Coach- so you will see advertisements and editorials in all the magazines (regardless of what the collection looks like...fyi).   Bravo to Stella Tennant for her return to modeling - and bravo to Ferragamo for choosing this exotic beauty for the fall campaign.  

 

FERRAGAMO TIME

VARA RAINBOWIn 1978 the Vara joined the Ferragamo collection.   The shoe has become an iconic image of the collection and the shoe is more relevant today than ever.   I just put down the September issue of Vogue and page after page of retro 50's heels are featured from  Prada to Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton.   (in my opinion MJ likes the Vara a little TOO much if you know what I mean).  The retro chunky heel is key for Fall.   Your best customers already have the Vara? Ok, then find one of the new versions in the collection that she will love.   She'll love the style and the price!
